  1. My goal for this quarter is to raise my grade from a 95 to a 97 by proofreading my labs and not skimping out on any reading assignments. However, a lot of homework and distractions in general could prevent me from reaching my goals, so I'm going to minimize distractions and do as much homework as possible during study hall. I will buy tub of green tea ice cream and eat it all during a Grey's Anatomy marathon if I reach my goal.

    1. Dear Dodie, a 97 is a great grade and I believe you can do it. My advice is to try to take care of less important work first, and then moving on to the harder more important work. I too have a problem with proof-reading and working too fast.

    2. Hi Dorota,
That is a very achievable goal and I know you can do it! Grey's anatomy and ice cream sounds like a great reward to me!

    3. That's a great reward, and I think you could definitely reach your goal. But why not go all out and aim for a 100?!

    4. You have a great goal and I know you can reach it! I have the same problem proofreading my labs as you do. You also have a great reward! Grey's Anatomy is a great show!

    5. Good idea. I know its hard to stay focused sometimes and study hall is a really great time to get work done since you dont have all the distractions of home. I need to proofread my labs too, sometimes I miss out on important information.

    6. Great idea, I too am going to start proofreading my labs. Good luck getting your grade up to a 97. I hope you enjoy your ice cream and Greys Anatomy!

  2. My goal for this quarter is to raise my test average by checking my answers and thuroughly reading the question before I answer. Two obstacles are a lack of sleep that could make me tired and less focused, and my impatience. I am going to overcome those obstacles by getting more sleep, and trying to calm down and be more sensible. If I reach my goal I will go to mcdonalds and buy a happy meal.

    1. Hi Caleb,
That sounds like a great strategy for how to improve your test grades. Sleep is very important, too!

    2. Raising test averages is a good way to improve overall averages because tests are weighted so highly. Reading over answers is very effective for spotting easy mistakes. I also want to get more sleep. I think that completing homework first and relaxing afterwards is an effective way to sleep better and get more overall sleep, as you can then control your bedtime. Good luck on that happy meal!

    3. Reading the question completely is a solid idea and will defiantly help raise you scores.

  3. My goal this quarter is to improve my overall grade from a 92 to a 95 by double checking all of my tests and quizzes and being less distracted while I study. One obstacle is I am not reading all test questions carefully, and not double checking my answers. Another is that while studying at home I get distracted very easily and I am not very productive. To overcome these obstacles I will check all of my tests and quizzes carefully before turning them in, and turning off my phone while doing homework and studying at night. I honestly don't have a reward for myself, I can't think of one.

    1. Hi Julia,
Double checking your tests and quizzes is definitely always a great idea. I get distracted when I try to do work at home too--I always put all my electronics in another room! Good luck! Think of a reward!

    2. That sounds like a great idea to double check your test because you can find mistakes you may not have noticed.

    3. I also have an obstacle of not reading test questions easily! I really think turing off phones is a great thing to do while studying! I know you can do it, good luck! :)

      Delete
    4. Hey Julia,
I also get really distracted when I study! I couldn't agree more with Jessika about turning my phone off when I study, because my phone is one of my biggest distracters. Also, you should find a really quiet place to study, or, what I do is wake up a little on the early side when everyone in the household is quiet and sleepy still. You can do! :)

  4. My goal for this quarter is to raise my test and quizzes average. Two obstacles that are preventing me from meeting my goal is getting off track while studying and only studying just a day or two before the test or quiz instead of a little each night. Also, I rush through tests sometimes and don't read the question carefully, or I don't overlook my answers. To overcome these obstacles I will study a little each night and not have my room door or my laptop open while studying, and come to class with questions if I have any. I will also proofread and take time on tests/quizzes before handing them in. I will reward myself by buying myself something nice and going to Cold Stone Creamery.

    5. Great. Studying a little each night is so important, since I started doing that myself, I am doing better on tests. Also try and make sure you do power boosts when you can because they really help out your test grades. Imagine if you could at five per cent to every grade. It makes such a big difference.

  5. My goal for this quarter is to raise my test and quiz averages to above a 90. Two obstacles standing in my way are that I get distracted when I study, and I only study one or two nights before the test instead of a little bit every night. I also rush through tests and quizzes and don't go back to check my answers. To overcome these obstacles, I will turn of my radio and phone when I am studying and study a little bit every night. I will also make sure I take my time on tests and quizzes and go back to check my answers. If I reach my goal, I will reward my self by watching reruns of 90210(which is an incredibly awful show but really funny and really addicting) for a night.

  7. My goal for this quarter is to raise my overall test grade from 86 to 93 by studying everynight what i learned in class that day. Two obstacles that would stand in my way are either too lazy to study or not proofreading after i take the test. To overcome the obstacles, i will study each day and not be lazy. And also proofread after i am done with my test. I will reward my self a good night sleep if i reach my goal.

    1. That is a great goal Tenzin! If you study every night and proofread all your answers I think that you will easily be able to get a 93. Also, it would help if you studied a little every night, and did your homework to learn. Good Luck!

    2. Tenzin,
I think being lazy is a big factor, and I know you are NOT the only one! When you get lazy, just think of a better test grade, which will help your average. Hopefully thinking "good grades" will motivate you to study more. I know you are capable of doing it!:)

    3. Not being lazy alone will help you a lot, I am lazy sometimes and don't get my homework done.

  8. My goal for this quarter is to raise my overall grade over an A. two obstacles I face are not getting my homework done on time and not studying enough for tests and quizzes. I can fix this by getting my homework done and turned in on time and to write better notes so that when I have to study for a test I will have better content to look over and study with. If I reach my goal I will reward myself with the knowledge that I earned a good grade by working hard.

  9. My goal for this quarter is to raise my lab grade from a 89 to a grade that is above a 90. I know I can achieve this goal but there are a lot of obstacles that could impede my success. I need to make sure that I write ALL my answers in complete sentences, even the ones that could be answered with a simple yes or no. I also need to make sure I am paying attention the entire time we are doing the lab. Often I do my homework or just don't pay attention to anything that is going on. I think that I can easily overcome these obstacles by just remembering my goal and rereading everything that I write to make sure that it is in complete sentences. I also have to pay attention for the entire duration of the lab to ensure that I have a complete understanding of the topic that we are studying. If I succeed I will feel very proud of myself and that is enough of a reward for me.

I'm glad you're realizing how important it is to really pay attention during lab time. The labs are supposed to reinforce what we learn in class and you can only get a good lab grade if you really understand what you're doing. Good luck and let me know if there is anything I can do to help!

  10. This quarter my goal is to raise my lab grade in biology to an A+. Two challenges that I face are not reading the instructions on the labs carefully, and not proofreading my labs/ check that I have answered all the questions. I will overcome these problems by reviewing over the entire lab before turning it in. This means that I won't turn it in until the day that is due, so that I can check over it all, since I usually turn in labs a little early. If I achieve my goal I will reward myself by enjoying a gallon of ice cream!

  11. My goal for this quarter is to raise my overall test grade by 5 points. 2 obstacles that prevent me from achieving this goal are completely understanding the homework each night and getting more sleep before the night of the test. I will overcome these obstacles by taking my time on the homework and making sure to go to bed earlier the night before tests. The reward of achieving a goal is enough motivation for me.

  13. My goal for the 3rd quarter is that I would like to raise my overall grade through my lab grade and test grades. Two obstacles that I might face on the way to my goal are my attention span when i have no sleep and when I mess up on tests due to multiple choice. I will try to fix these problems by getting more sleep at night and practicing my test taking skills on line. If I succeed at reaching my goal this quarter I will reward myself with a day of absolute relaxation!

    2. I am also trying to raise my grade through lab and test grades also and i think it will be done if we put work into it and try. if not enough sleep is whats keeping you away from good grades, you should do some of your homework during school and plan what you are going to do at home. that way you would get through everything faster and hopefully get more sleep.

    3. I agree with your solutions to you obstacles. It is very important that we all get a good sleep every night. I suggest that you do all your homework before doing anything fun or relaxing, you will probably be surprised at how much free time you have after you are finished. Then you can do what ever you want untill you go to sleep which should help you get to sleep. I also think it is a good idea to practice test taking skills, online is probably a great place for this. I hope you can achive your goal so you can get your day of realaxing,

I have some strategies you could use to improve your multiple choice skills if you'd like to drop by during a free period or before or after school sometime. I will try to overcome my lack of focus by not multitasking or hanging out with my friends while doing my homework and working on labs. 16. my 3rd quarter goal is to get a better overall and more specifically to improve my test scores. Two obsticals that could stand in my way are one me not studying for tests because i am not organized and cannot find paperwork and another obstical that could stop me from reaching my goal would be not doing homework. I think Doing the homework more to understand the material rather that get the grade would greatly help me on tests and quizzes. I will overcome these obsticals by keeping my bag more organized and by making sure to study my homework after i do it. 1. Sequoia you could turn off you phone to keep you focused while studying for tests and quizzes. Also you could make flashcards to study with you could make some every night.

    2. During class you should take additional notes to help you study before tests. Write notes that makes sence to you not just what is on the board.

    3. Tape your notes to the ceiling of your bedroom. Your brain remembers things better when you fade to stage 1 REM sleep. Hopefully you'll remember more of your science that way. Also because there is a higher concentration of science knowledge in your notes, osmosis might occur, and the information might seep into your brain. Think about it. I'm not guaranteeing anything.

Not doing well on tests and quizzes would also bring down my grade, but I could overcome that obstacle by carefully reading directions and rechecking my answers. 19. My goal has 2 parts:
    1) Get more sleep! I am not getting nearly enough, and it is impeding my ability to focus well in class.
    2) I would like to bump my grade up to above a 92, especially on labs and tests.
A ton of homework could prevent me from reaching my goal, if I have a lot I could be up late. Especially if I have to travel to Groton where my father lives. Another thing that could prevent me from reaching my goal is if I fail to do my homework. I often use my textbook to understand concepts, and doing homework is a great way to help me to learn, not to mention my grade.I am going to overcome these obstacles by making sure I go to sleep by 10:00. Also, by making sure I complete all of my homework in a timely manner, without procrastinating. If I reach my goal, I will go to RadioShack and purchase some switches, wire, LEDs, and clips. Then I will go to Lowe's and purchase spray paint and styrofoam. I will then build a concept model car. Fun!

  20. My goal for the third marking period is to get a 90 or higher on all of my labs by making sure I re-read all my answers to the lab questions before I turn it in and by slowing down on parts that I find easy. Some things that could prevent me from reaching my goal are rushing and forgetting to check what I wrote for errors. I sometimes rush through parts of labs I find easy and make mistakes which I don't fix because I don’t find them. I also sometimes make small errors which make what I wrote not make sense. To prevent this I will force myself to do all the parts of the labs slowly and thoroughly, I will also go over all the labs before I turn theme in. If I accomplish my goal I will make myself a sandwich.

  21. My goal for for this quarter is to bring my grade up by being less careless on labs and quizzes. Homework overkill could prevent me from reaching this goal and so could lack of sleep and lack of time to do homework. I will prevent this from happening by doing most of my homework during my study hall and by going home and doing my homework immediately after school. Personally, I think that having good grades is enough of a reward but if I must then I will treat myself to going out to dinner with my girlfriend.

I have a whole lot of things to do at home that easily occupy my time at home when I could be using the time for studying! I'm going to overcome these obstacles by doing my homework when I get home instead of procrastinating so I can study. If I achieve my goal, I'll reward myself with a Saturday full of sleep and tv!

Time management sounds like something you would benefit from. Prioritize your day, try to get some work done during school during studyhalls or lunch, and I think doing your work right when you get home is a good idea. Then, you can get distracted all you want, guilt-free! Good luck!

Laziness could prevent me from accomplishing my goal of raising my grade, also staying organized and on task and focused could prevent me from accomplishing my goal. I am going to overcome these obstacle by just keeping my binder organized and my time properly managed. Also i am going to study a little bit every night. If I accomplish my goal I will reward my self with a day off when I don't have to do anything!

Experiment with music to accompany your work time! A nice low-paced no-lyrics playlist can greatly improve a worker's morale in completing one of his tasks! I'm going to stop using explanation marks in every sentence! Haha! No I'm not! Tricked you! Anyway, we all believe in you! You can make this happen! You go girl!

  24. My goal this semester is to make sure that I am studying in an efficient way for all of the tests and quizzes so that I am better prepared for them. I'd like to get better grades on my tests (above an 85 on each one). Two obstacles that might get in the way of me achieving my goal are absences and not getting in my homework on time. I need to make sure that I stay healthy so that I don't miss so much information. If I achieve my goal I will reward myself with movie marathon with my friends.

    1. Lillian, I'm sure that you will do better if you put your mind to it and stick to your goal. Absences are a kind of good and bad thing, since you get so behind on work. A movie marathon sounds like a great idea, not to mention just a night to relax and have fun with some friends!

  26. My goal this quarter is to complete and turn in all homework assignments. This seriously affected my grade and I would like to improve the grades of my homework assignments this quarter, which starts with completing homework every night. Procrastinating is an issue, but another large one looms. I usually complete the rest of my homework first, saving science for last. If I have to not do some type of homework, it's usually science. I want to complete homework each night in science, attempting to push this idea of saving it for last off. Procrastination comes up less, but is still an issue when it comes to science homework. I am simply going to overcome these obstacles by completing the homework each night, and turning it in the next. That's pretty much it. I will not reward myself directly for completing this homework. Instead, I will be rewarded by having more time, which I can then use to learn new material for other subjects, or give praise to the Black Goat of Qohor/the Woods with a Thousand Young.

  28. My goal is to get my grade in the 90% range and keep it there if not improve even more. Mostly whats keeping me from not already having a 90 is every once in a while i don't do a homework or I get a low test score. The main cause of this is Minecraft. I get distracted and decide to play a little Minecraft and end up playing it the rest of the night. I plan to not turn on my computer at all until I need it so i wont get distracted.

  29. My goal for this quarter is to get all my work in, on time and done with care and quality. Two things that will prevent me from reaching this goal is forgetfulness and lack of concentration. I am going to over come these obstacles by being concentrated in class and at home by eliminating distractions and staying focused on one thing at a time. Another way i will over come these things is by double checking that i have everything in my backpack before I leave home, and making sure I don't forget to hand anything in. If i achieve this goal i will be rewarded by the joy of having an excellent grade, and a grade i am satisfied with in a class that is important to me.

  30. My goal is to ask more questions in class and come in for help if I don't understand something. I don't really participate much in class, which sometimes holds me back from gaining a fuller understanding of a concept if I don't ask questions. Another obstacle is that I dont feel motivated enough to come in for help if I just need to ask a little question. I will solve these problems by participating more during class discussions and asking questions even if the answer is quite simple. I will reward myself by going out for a movie with my friends if I complete these goals.

    1. Try not to be shy. Most likely your questions are questions others have too so ask! If you really don't like participating because your nervous of sounding stupid if you get something wrong its okay I don't participate really either because of that but you can always ask Ms. Sosnoski alone or Mrs. Knewstaub (idk the right spelling of her name) but she helps a lot too. And nice reward.

    2. I agree with Lily. Go ahead and ask questions. It's never good to leave the class not understanding that day's material. No question is "stupid". Even if you missed something the teacher said earlier you will thank yourself if you clarify it.

    3. Hi Serina!
This is a great goal. I never liked asking questions in class either, but now that I am a teacher I wish that I had always been a question asker! No question is too little and there are certainly no stupid questions! I am here to help and like Lily said, many students have the same questions and are too shy to ask. I think this is a great thing to focus on. Good Luck!

  31. My goal is to learn to enjoy the material we will be working with this quarter. I want to try and have more fun doing the labs during class. A couple things that have prevented me from accomplishing this goal are me not focusing in class during the notes when we learn about the material and me not trying my hardest on labs. I will try to pay more attention and try to really get into doing the labs. If I reach this goal I will have the reward of having fun in Biology class.

  33. My goal for this quarter is to improve my test grades by finding a more effective way to study. Two obstacles that could prevent me from achieving my goal is not finding a way to study that will have the information stick in my head. Also, not having enough time to study could prevent my goal. I may not have enough time because i have too much other homework that day or I'm very tired and want to go to bed earlier that day. I will overcome these obstacles because i will keep using my study halls to help finish my homework and to study so i can get more sleep. I will also talk to people to help find a more way to help me study well. I think that achieving my goal of higher test grades is award enough.

I will also take more time reading the questions on the test/quiz so I fully understand what i have to answer. If I study more at night it will also increase my chance to get a higher grade. Two obstacles that can keep me from reaching my goal are not studding enough and rushing through the test, not reading the questions carefully enough. If I reach my goal I will reward myself with a higher quiz and test grade average and a box of chocolates :)

  35. For the 3rd marking period, my ultimate goal is to increase the scores of my tests. 2 obsacles that may prevent me from scoring higher are: lack of sleep and not studying enough. The nights before tests I usually focus on 2 things: sleep and studying. However, when I study I get sleepy so to solve this problem I am going to get good rest the night before and wake up earlier to study. Instead of just reading the textbook once, I will read the text until I fully understand what I am reading. All in all, I am just bad at taking tests,I stink at sitting down and answering several multiple choice questions! If I do better on my tests, I will reward myself with simply the fact that my test grade average increased. That is a satisfying reward for me.

  36. My goal for this quarter is to raise my lab grade and get homework and labwork in on time and to raise my overall lab grade at least over a 90%. Two obstacles that could prevent me from doing this is that I have the Code Red Robotics build sessions from 5:00-9:00 every day and that I am not that organized. I will overcome these obstacles by trying to get enough sleep so that I can focus better on my work and always put my papers in my binder in order. My reward will be that I reached my goal.

Also, I am going to study the notes from the day, as part of my homework and then study everything on a lighter note the day before the test also. I will reward myself with the higher grade. 39. My goal for this quarter is to maintain my current grade because I am happy with it. I would love to improve my grade but not letting it drop is necessary to do this. I can maintain my grade by continuing keeping in good habits like always doing homework, reviewing before tests and quizzes and doing extra credit when available. I also have another goal. I want to improve my lab grade. because of one lab that suffered late deductions and a some B grade labs, mostly from the beginning of the year, my average has suffered. I want to have a ninety-five lab average by the end of the marking period. I will achieve this by revising my answers and ensuring they always make sense and are accurate and concise so as to efficiently complete labs instead of spending a long time "waffling" on with irrelevant information for each question. I will also try not to over-think everything. I often end up changing right answers to wrong answers. And, of course, when in doubt, I shouldn't be afraid to ask my classmates or teacher questions. If I prevent the obstacles of: lack of accurate, concise answers and over-thinking relatively simple questions and achieve my goal I will catch up on Downton Abbey whilst eating some kind of yummy snack.
