Blog Post 8--Reflecting on 3rd MP goals

Please answer ALL the questions below :) Answer honestly and completely!
  1. Review your goal from 3rd marking period. Based on your grade sheet, did you meet your goal? If you met your goal, how are you going to reward yourself? If you did not meet your goal, why do you think that happened? What are you going to do to make sure you reach your new goal?
  2. Review your grade report from 3rd quarter. What areas are you excelling at? Why are you excelling in those areas? What areas are you struggling with? Why are you struggling in those areas?
  3. What is your goal for 4th marking period? (MAKE SURE THIS GOAL IS MEASURABLE AND ATTAINABLE!) "Increase my grade" is not enough. You must say HOW you will attain your goal :)
  4. How can your classmates and Ms. Sosnoski help you meet your goal?
  5. How will you reward yourself if you meet your goal?

  1. My goal from 3rd marking period was to increase my test grade to an 87. I have met my goal because my test average currently is an 88. This is a huge accomplishment for me, and the reward of having a higher overall average is enough. Right now I am excelling at Homework/Classwork/Warmups and Lab Activities. I think that I am excelling in these areas because I take my time and actually try to understand the content. I am definitely struggling in Quizzes. My quiz average is a 74, and I believe that this is because I never know when they are coming up. I do look at the Objectives sheet, but for some reason I can never remember when we have a quiz. My goal for the 4th marking period is to hopefully increase my quiz average to an 85. This will hopefully raise my overall grade and that would be very rewarding. My classmates and Ms. Sosnoski can help me meet my goal be reminding me when we have quizzes, so I can study.

  2. Unfortunately I lost my goal sheet from third marking period, but I can remeber I wanted to ask questions when I did not understand something, which I have not been doing. My main goal was to focus more and pay attention consistantly, and again I believe I failed to succeed this goal. I understand its close to summer and even closer to break this April and I think because of how much work I'm taking in I can't wait to get it over with. This last quarter I am going to pay very close attention and study every day until the end of the year. I want myself to understand how much better I will do if I study. My homework and my labs averages in the 90's. my tests and quizzes grade average a little below 90. this coming quarter im sure these grades will raise! I think added homework or more homework will increase my effert and knowledge to this subject.

    1. Yes, Wil, that was your goal. I hope you do start asking questions when you need to! That is very important. Just a few more months...you can do it!

  3. 1. No, I didn't meet my goal. I didn't miss it terribly, but I didn't achieve it. It was because of a lot of bad planning on my part, including missed homeworks, rushed labs, and tests I didn't study for. I do believe that I can do better, but I need to work more on planning ahead and not believing so firmly that I know things that I don't.
    2. I am excelling at tests and quizzes, less with homework and labs. I think this is because I can reason out the majority of things on tests, while the more specific information on homework and labs is not something I can divulge from the general info.
    3. I want to get closer to a 90 than an 80, and break 90 if possible. I know what mistakes I have been making, and I'll take steps to prevent them from happening again.
    4. There's not much. If this were an issue of distraction, than there would be something that others could do, but it's not.
    5. I'll buy myself a pony.

  4. I didn't meet my goal. Actually it was quite horrible. I was actually aiming for A+, but I barely manage to get in A- range. I probably got this score, because I only focused on turning in the homework in time. I didn't consider much in the content, which gave me a great impact. I am getting pretty good score in the test, however failing the quiz. I think this was probably because of my lack of preparation. I always forget when the quiz is, which makes my quiz score horrible. Also I don't think I study hard enough to get an A+. Thus, I will try to get an A+ from now on. I just want Ms.Sosnoski to remind us a quiz at the day before the quiz. If I succeed my goal, I will just satisfy at my good looking grade sheet.

    1. Hi Dennis,
You are doing a fine job. You are right--it is not good to do the homework just to get it in on time. I will try to remind more about quizzes--they are always on your assignment sheet, so look at that often :)

  5. I misplace my goal sheet, but I believe my goal was either to do better on tests or quizzes, or both. I have done better on tests and quizzes this quarter. The only reward that I am giving myself is a better quiz and test average. I couldn't find a grade report from last quarter but I think that I am doing better with my quizzes and tests. I am not sure about my lab grade. I don't feel that I am struggling in anything. My goal for the fourth marking period is to have a better lab, quiz and test average which will help my overall grade. I will get a higher lab grade by understanding the lab better and asking questions when I am confused or don't know the answer. I will study more for my quizzes and tests and that will increase those grades. I hope that my lab group will help me and I help them when help is needed by any member. The only reward I want is a higher Bio grade.

  6. Based on my grade from the third marking period, I did achieve my goal. My goal was to increase my quiz and test grade and raise my entire grade. I did just this and this is reward enough. According to my grade sheet, I am excelling in Lab activities and homework. I believe I'm doing well in these areas because I do my labs thoroughly and Iv'e been doing all my homework. I am not really struggling in any areas. My goal for the fourth marking period is to raise my whole grade by doing even better on tests. I will achieve this by studying very hard and going to review sessions when I can. Ms. S can help me achieve my goal by helping me in the review sessions and my classmates can help by not wasting to much time when we are reviewing. If I achieve this goal then the higher grade will be enough of a reward! :)

  7. 1 My goal was to get better test grades and they have been better than in the past. Although they are improving, i would still like to get them higher. I will reward myself by being happy that my grade is raising. I still need to study more to meet my goal to the fullest.
2 I am excelling at labs and homework but not so much at quizzes and tests. This is because if I don't know something on a lab or a homework assignment, I can use my notes or ask for help, where with tests and quizzes I have to memorize everything.
3 My goal for the 4th marking period is to increase my overall grade by getting passing and higher grades on all of the tests and quizzes and I will do this by studying more and I will also start doing the power boosts to get more points and have a better understanding
4 Ms. S and my classmates can help by being there to ask questions to so that u can get a full understanding of topics
5 I will reward myself by being content with my grade

  8. I did not quite meet my goal for this marking period, my quiz grade actually got worse! I think that it's because I missed one, so it counted as a zero. My grade in general did go up, but I didn't get an A+ like I hoped to. I am doing really well on tests and homework. This is because I understand the material, and I am always sure to finish my homework each night. My goal is the same, to get an A+ and really do better on quizzes. I always forget that we have them and then I don't know the material well enough. I think if I raise my quiz grade, I can get and A+, so they go hand in hand. Ms Sosnoski could help me by reminding us when we have a quiz, although I know it's on our assignment sheet! My reward would be having an A+. That's good enough for me!

  9. I reached my goal for the third marking period and I will reward myself later in life by getting into a good college because I got good grades in Honors Biology. I am excelling at quizzes, homework, and Labs because I do my work and shortly study the material the work is on. I don't excel in tests because I don't study for long periods of time. My goal for this new marking period is to score a 90% or higher on every test I take from now until the end of the school year. I will do this by taking more time to study for tests and using the methods Ms. Sosnoski showed us for studying. My classmates can help me reach this goal by helping me study and I already said how Ms. Sosnoski helped me. My reward for this goal will be a sense of pure satisfaction and accomplishment.

  10. 1. I didn't achieve my goal of getting test grades of 80 or above and keeping my grade average in the 90's. Wen I made this goal I was trying to motivate myself, but I think I didn't do so well because my test grades aren't great and I need to make the reviews before school and study more.
    2. My grade for the 3rd quarter was pretty good and I think I do well in labs, quizzes and homework because some of it is class work and I always am sure to get my homework for bio done. I'm still struggling with getting better test grades, and I think it's because of what I said before... I need to get in n time for morning reviews and study more.
    3. My new goal is just to make the review sessions in the morning and again to try to get at least an 80% on tests or higher.
    4. Ma sosnoski can help me by making sure I focus if she sees me talking or goofing off during study or review time in class before tests and my classmates too can make sure I'm focusing whenever we are going over something again that is complicated.
    5. If I can achieve this goal I'll just be rewarded with being proud of myself, and having a good grade in the class's.

This is the goal I failed at because I still sometimes leave my homework to studyhall but, I atleast look at it to see how hard it is the night before. My other goal was to get above a 90 on my 3rd marking period grade and I did accompplished that. All I want to do now is continue to do a good job. Maybe I should study more so I can get an A++++++++++++++++++++++++ My classmates can help me by being quiet while watching movies!!!!!

  14. My goal was to get a better lab grade (actually do the labs not copy down the answers) and be more consistent with homework. Unfortunately I did not meet my goal, since I was busy. However, I actually participated in the labs, and my lab grade was only bad because I turned them in very late. My goal for the 4th quarter is to get at least an 85 for my lab grade and 95 for my homework, and a 90 combined grade.

  16. 1. I didn't achieve my goal of completing all of the homework assignments. I think this is because I do biology homework last when I finish all of my other homework. To accomplish my goal for this quarter I will review the goal every day to remind mysekf of the goal.
    2. My tests and quizzes and labs are all really good this quarter. I always study for the tests and quizzes and make sure i understand the labs. My homework average needs a little help, though it is better than last quarter.I just need to do the homework first so i dont forget.
    3. For this quarter, I will continue with my homework goal. I also want to complete all of the powerboosts and extra credit for this quarter to help raise my grade. I will start doing the powerboosts right after the test so i dont forget.
    4. Ms. Sosnoski can help me reach my goal by reminding me about the powerboosts and asking me if i have one before i leave the class. My classmates can help by asking if i did the powerboost when they see me before biology class.
    5. If i complete my goal, that will be a reward in itself. But i will also convince my mom to bake something.

  17. For the 3rd marking period I didn't quite reach my goal. I didn't reach this goal because my test grades really brought my grade down. Next time to reach my goal to I will study the objective sheets a lot more and try and focus and take more time on my tests. Based on my grade sheet I'm really excelling with my lab grades. I think this is because I learn a lot from doing labs because of the hands on activities. The thing I struggled the most with this quarter is my tests. I get really nervous during tests and it's hard for me to focus;I need to learn to take my time on them. My goal for the fourth marking period is the same as my old goal, to get at least a 90 in the class. I will do this by learning to focus more and trying not to stress so much about tests. I will also try to study more and ask for help whenever I have a question about something. My classmates can help me meet my goal by not distracting me and getting off topic so much during class. I feel confident in myself that I will reach my goal as long as I follow through with my strategies. If I obtain my goal this marking period I will reward myself with the satisfaction of straight A's and ice cream from Cold Stone.

  20. I did not achieve my goal. I think i didnt raise my quiz grade because we did not have much time to learn the material before we were quizzed on it. In order to improve my quiz grade I need to study my notes after we take them. In the 3rd quarter i did best on Homework/Classwork/Warmups. I think i did well in that category because i made sure that i had everything done on time. Im struggling most on quizzes because for the most part im not prepared for them when they are given. My goal for the 4th quarter is the same as last quarter, to raise my average quiz grade to above 80%. I think that i can do this by making sure i know when the quizzes are so i can be prepared. Ms. Sosnoski can help me in doing this by announcing when we have quizzes the next day and my classmates can help me by letting me copy their notes if I miss a day of school.

  21. My goal for 3rd marking period was to increase my homework and test grades, by turning in all assignments and studying. Based on my grade report I believe I achieved my goal, but I dont have any idea when im going to have time to "reward" myself :(. I am excelling in everything except for labs; the former I accomplished through diligence, the latter is the result of a really bad urinalysis lab, but my grade didnt suffer too much. My goal for 4th quarter is I guess to maintain my current grade (kinda hard to increase it much) by just keeping up what I'm currently doing. Ms. Sosnoski keep doing what you're doing :). Classmates: dont whine when things get hard or you dont understand, and pay attention during class; I'd like to learn without hearing a lot of side conversations that get us nowhere, nor complaints, its an honors class this is the easy years of school, the more we all pay attention the better we're all going to get.

  22. 1. I defintely have achieved my goal for the 3rd quarter. To reward myself I'm going to make sure I keep upon my studying habits that I've recently improved for the next quarter.
    2. I have improved by 7 points on my test average and my labs and homework are still very good. I struggle with quizzes because its hard to already know and study everything from homework and class after one day. I'm the kind of student that has to study for a longer period of time to understand the material.
    3. My goal for the 4th quarteris to keep reading the textbook units before tests to help my understanding of it and try to do my best on quizzes
    4. Ms. S and my classmates can help me attain this goal by keep reviewing in class and doing their part on homework the day before group quizzes.
    5. My reward, if I attain this goal, will be that my parents will let me do whatever I want and not ground me.

I feel like I did do a lot better with turning in my homework on time and more complete than before. My grade sheet does show a little bit higher of an average for homework completion than before. I am disappointed in myself though because my test grades are not good. I am going to try my very best to work to do two goals. Better test grades and still keep up with my homework. I'm so glad your goal worked out and that you're feeling good about it! 7 points is a lot! IT loks like you've found some better strategies for studying. That's great. Maybe you can share them with some of your classmates. The quizzes are quick after you learn the material but it's my way of seeing if you "got" what I was talking about or the activity we did. I usually put on your assignment sheet what objectives the quiz is on so maybe if you try to asnwer those objectives before the quiz it will help! Good luck!

To achieve this, I will try to study for tests and quizzes and fill out the lab activities as fully as possible. Ms.S and my classmates can help me achieve my goal by reviewing the test in class. 26. No i did not meet my 3rd marking period goal. I think it happened because my lack of focus on quizzes and I let someone copy off of my lab. For my next goal, i am going to avoid getting in trouble.
My 3rd marking period grade was a 92.49. I was excelling at about everything but my quiz grade average brought my grade down. I felt like i was struggling on quizzes because it felt like it didnt matter since it wasn’t graded heavily.
My grade for the 4th marking period is to attain a grade of an average of the first three quarters which is about a 94. For this marking period i am not going to slack off on studying or homework because I usually don’t focus 100%.

  27. I think I came close to meeting my goal for my third marking period, but I didn't make it all the way. I think this happened because I didn't focus on tests as much and I also let some people copy off of one of my labs causing me to loose a lot of points on it. My labs have also been pretty sloppy and I don't think I really did anything to improve that. For my next goal I'm going to try to reach it by focusing a lot harder then I have been. I'm doing well in homework and quizzes and that's because that's what I was trying to improve, but I'm not doing so well in testing and lab work. I'm going to work harder to bring up my grade by making sure I don't let anyone copy off of my labs and making them a lot neater and getting my work in on time.

I think I need to do better at doing all my homework and spending lots of time on it so I understand it. My goal for the fourth marking period is ti get a ninety or above ( preferably above) in this class overall, and to get above an eighty in my homeworks average. 30. My last goal was to improve my quiz grade,
and so far, I haven't raised it up to the point of satisfication. The reason might be that I don't check my assignment sheets often and so, I'm not really aware of the quizes. This quarter, I will actually write down quiz dates on my calendar, so I can remember them.

Overall, my homework grade fell, because I tend to forget about blogpost assignments. I will have to raise it up to 100% COMPLETION.

I turned in all the homework, did well on all the labs, got a good grade on the last test, and got a 100% on the notebook check. I need just to make sure that I am maintaining this level of work and organization.
I excelled in labs 3rd marking period. I think I excelled because I made sure I was really understanding what Patrick, Sarah, and I were doing, which made the follow-up questions so much easier. I struggled with tests and quizzes. I think this is partly because I was sick on very crucial days for taking notes and understanding the units for two whole units. This I changed by when I felt very sick for the day I had double period bio where I knew we were doing a lot, I took a lot of medication and came anyways. I know this is not really good that I force myself to go to school when I don't feel good, but if I couldn't handle it, I wouldn't come. Also, it is far more difficult to try and catch up than dealing with being sick.
My goal for the 4th marking period is 85 or higher. I think I am already on track with this goal, and it's is vital that I continue this amount of effort and studiousness, if not more. I have been studying for quizzes and tests, and really focusing on what I'm writing down when we take notes instead of just copying down what I need to write. Also, I have discovered this wonderful thing called an "Objective Sheet" which actually says what I have to study and even has the agenda for the WHOLE UNIT on the sheet (haha). They really have become quite useful. I guess how my classmates and Ms. Sosnoski could help me is make sure I do my homework and Amber, Aliya, and Leslie have been very helpful with reviewing over labs, tests, and quizzes. Thanks guys <3 :) My reward for getting this grade is if I have a 3.4 GPA or higher, my parents will give me $100, or if i get a 3.2 GPA I can get $50. If I have a good Science grade, this will definitely help a lot.

    1. Hi Leah,
I'm glad you have been working hard to improve your grade. Keep up that work ethic and keep up the organization! Focusing on the labs is also ver important, so great job with that! Being sick during school is definitely tough. It would benefit you to come in for some extra help when you miss days so you don't miss important information.

Yessss! The objective sheet will help so much! You can do this Leah! An 85 will be easy for you if you stay focused!

  32. My goal was to raise my lab and homework grades. I did raise my lab grade, but my homework grade is still bad and bringing me down. Also my quiz grades have dropped. Im doing much better in lab Activities because I have been focusing more during labs. I think my quiz grades have dropped because I haven't been prepared for quizzes. My homework grade is still bad because I am not doing them in time. I can raise my quiz and homework grades by looking at the homework calender more often. Also with the homework, I really just need to put more effort into it. Im not really trying as hard as I should to get it done. My goal for the fourth quarter is that I will look at my assignment sheet more often, continue to focus during labs, and put more effort into homework. I want to raise my grade to above an 85. If I do, ill play videogames on week days and buy a lot of stuff.

    1. Justin,
I'm glad you've noticed the importance of focusing during labs and I'm glad it has helped you improve. Focusing on understanding the homework and making sure you complete it is also very crucial for your biology grade. You can do it! There's only about 8 more weeks of classes left!

  33. Based on my grade sheet I think I meet my goal of maintaining my grade and also I think I am being more respectful to my teachers, another one of my goals. I don't really have a reward for myself... other than maybe being happy. I am excelling in tests and homework. I think i excel in tests because the power boosts really help me a lot and looking over the objectives before the test help me too. I excel in the homework because i do it consistently and I'm learning to stay more organized for binder checks. My quiz and lab averages are a little lower because I think I'm always unprepared for quizzes and I never know what they're on. Also, since there are few questions of quizzes, each one counts more. For my labs, I think I could do a better job fully answering the questions and proof-reading to make sure they make sense because a lot of the time I just rush to get them in on time and don't pay attention to the quality. My goal for the fourth quarter is to again, maintain my grade, give or take 2 points, work more on quality for labs, be more prepared for quizzes, and keep respecting my teacher. I will do this by doing my homework, checking my assignment sheet for upcoming quizzes, and proof read my labs. Ms. Sosnoski can help me reach this goal by continuing to remind us if our effort on our labs go down and tell us there will be a quiz the day before, or maybe just put it on her smartboard so I will know even if I forget to look at my assignment sheet. My reward will self-confidence and happiness if i reach this goal and also I will do better on the regents if I continue to do my work well in class.

    1. Hi Zsofi,
Thanks for being so reflective for this assignment. I'm glad that you have seen success based on your last goal! Maybe it would help to have someone else proofread your labs because sometimes if I proofread my own work, I look over mistakes in my writing. I wil try to remember to put the quiz dates on the board during announcements!

  34. Unfortunately, I did not reach my goal of getting my overall grade up to a 95. In fact, it went down. However, I feel like I did reach my goal of doing better on homework. I pay attention to announcements and I completed almost all of the homework for the third marking period. I didn't reach my goal for this quarter because there were a couple of quizzes that I didn't do so well on and there was a homework assignment from a long time ago that brought my grade down. I didn't even notice it until the end of this marking period and it was too late to do anything about it. Right now, I have the best average in lab activities. I think its because the grades I get on my labs stay consistent and the grades themselves are pretty good. The same goes for tests. Right now, I'm struggling with quiz grades, which is funny because last quarter, that's the area I was doing best in. I think it's because I just assumed I would do well on all the quizzes and I didn't actually study for them that much, which I should do. My goal for this quarter is to raise my overall average to a 95, which is the same as last quarter's goal. This time, I'm going to study for quizzes more often and I'm going to review my grade sheet more carefully whenever we get them and look at specific assignments I didn't do well on and try to do something to fix them. I'm also going to do more extra credit assignments. I think forming study groups in class before a test or quiz is a good way to help me achieve my goal and for other people to achieve their goals. Those mini study sessions really help. If and when I reach my goal, the grade itself will be rewarding and also relaxing after this quarter will be a good reward.

    1. Katie,
Thank you for being very specific in your response! Studying for quizzes will definitely help you reach your goal. I'm glad the little study sessions help you--I will try to do them more often! Good luck!

  35. I didn't reach my goal because at the beginning I did reach it but then I started to slack off. If I don't slack off I could of reached it. I am excelling in homeworks and labs, but not in quizzes. I am not sure why. My goal will stay the same but I will add another to it which is to pay attention more. I will reach these goals by not slacking off. I can be helped by being reminded to not slack off. If I reach these goals then I will give myself a pat on the back.

    1. Josh,
Are you studying for your quizzes? If not, then that is why you aren't doing well. If yor'e studying and stil not doing well, maybe we should talk about some study strategies that will help you. It's important to be able to recognize why you are not doing well in an area of your grade. How, specifically, are you slacking off? How are you going to prevent yourself from doing that this quarter?

  36. I got half of my goal, and I was also very close to meeting the other half. I am pretty proud of myself because I did every single homework over the 3rd marking period.I am not going to reward myself yet because I still haven't got my other half of my goal yet. I am doing well on homework and labs, tests I'm doing alright, but unlike last quarter, my quiz grades are down. I have decided I'm going to start doing the power boosts again, and be more prepared for quizzes. I still want to raise my grade up to the 90 I'm looking for since it is only 3 points away, and doing the power boosts will help me do so. I think the only person who can help me meet my goal is myself, I have to have the work ethic to meet my goal. If I meet my goal I will go into the summer with a good mindset on next year.

  37. my goal was to achieve an A this quarter. i did not meet my goal because i didn't get an A. I got all of my assignments in which is good, but my tests grades are still low. i can improve this by studying more. my classmates can help me by reminding me to stay on task if i seem like im not paying attention. I have the same goal this quarter, and i will get it by studying more. i will reward myself by getting into a good college because of my good grade

    1. Joe,
What are some strategies you will start using to study more effectively? Would it help for you to attend review sessions?

  38. I did meet my goal because I brought my over all grade up significantly and my test grades, I am currently eating ice cream so that works fine for a reward. Well just fix little things like better organization and always turning in warm ups because thats mainly what brought my grade down.
I am excelling in tests which is surprising. I do all my homework and get good grades but I lose a lot of warm ups which is bringing my homework grade down. I now want to bring my lab grades up which I have slowly been doing and therefore bring my general grade up. People can help by just checking in every once in awhile and just not being grounded will be a good enough reward.

Congrats on reaching your goal and improving on tests! Maybe you can have your group members proofread your labs before you turn them in? That always helped me. Good luck!

  39. Haoge, you do a great job with homework and handing in labs on time. I'm glad the powerboosts helped. It seems like studying is your biggest area in need of improvement. Perhaps we can talk about some study strategies you could use? Good luck!

  40. My goal was to stay organized in my class binder and to start studying objectives. I definitely reached the organization part of my goal, so I'm happy about that, but I think I can do a lot more of the studying part. When I study for most of the tests, I look over notes, and but don't look at the objectives for a long time. I don't think that strategy works for me, so my 4th marking period goal is to study each objective, and write down the answers to the objectives. I think this will improve my test grades. Studying objectives with a friend would be good, and the review packets have the objectives on them, so I'm happy that Ms. Sosnoski takes the time to give them to us. If I meet my goal, I'll probably just be proud of myself, but I might do something special.

When I looked at my grade sheet, I had the highest grades in labs and homework. Since my grades for tests and quizzes are usually lower, I'm going to focus on them for the 4th marking period.

  41. Good job reaching your goal with organization Sarah! I think writing down the answers to the objectives will be a great way to study as well as studying with a partner. What, specifically, is your goal for 4th quarter?

  42. I have reached my goal of doing better on labs. I am doing well in the lab work area and this is because i have gone in and got extra help with the labs. i am not doing so well in the testing area because i lack studying. My goal for next M.P is to raise my grade on tests. I plan on doing so by studying a little everyday and before test day go into the science help room and study there as well. My class mates can help me by providing notes that i have missed so that i may study them and be prepared.if i meet my goal i will go out to eat or something:p
