Blog Post #8- Goal Reflections

It's been 5 weeks since you wrote your goals for 3rd quarter. In this post, I'd like you to do the following:

  • State your goal for 3rd quarter
  • Answer the following questions regarding your goal
    • So far, based on your 5 week grades and your graded papers, how do you think you are doing with your goal?
    • If you are not meeting your goal, why do you think that is?
    • If you are not meeting your goal, what steps are you going to take in order to reach your goal by the end of 3rd quarter?
    • If you are meeting your goal, what do you think is making you successful?
    • If you are meeting your goal, do you have another goal you'd like to accomplish?
    • How can your classmates and Ms. Sosnoski help you to achieve your goal?

  1. I wanted to make sure I studied for all of my tests and did 100% of my homework. As of the five weeks I am very happy with my grade in Bio. I have really improved it by studying for tests and a all of my homeworks. I have also realized that taking very thorough notes and reading all of the textbook pages helps a lot. My parents and I both agree that I should keep up the good work.

  3. I am sorry but my computer messed up and wont let my post a comment-->

I wanted to ask questions when i didn't understand anything and study for all of my tests, and get good grades as well. My grades in all of my tests have raised, averaging my grade average much higher than it used to be, because of the extra studying i have been doing. for now on i will study every night to maintain a high averaged grade. I believe if Ms. Sosnoski gave us more review homework and vocab words per unit, it will help us/me.

  4. My goal is to get better grades on tests by studying more and trying to better understand the material. I think that I have been doing okay but can do better. I don't think I am studying enough and not taking good enough notes to study from. I am going to study more to hopefully increase my test grades. I think that more review sheets would help. Maybe one then go over questions in class than another similar one the night before the test.

  5. My goal for the third quarter was to be more respectful to teachers (specifically Ms. S) and to talk less. I think that I have been partly meeting my goal in that I have been waiting for good times to ask questions and talk to Ms. Sosnoski, so in that way, I have been being more respectful. I think that I would do better with my goal if I remembered it more- the goal kind of fell to the back of my brain in the last five weeks. Also, in order to reach my goal, I need to talk less in class. I think that I have been talking less than in the past but I'd like to cut down on it even more so that I stop talking during inappropriate times. To help me achieve this goal, my classmates could help me by keeping my goal in mind and not talking to me during class and also reminding me of my goal periodically so it stays on my brain.

What is realy helping me is the hands on activities that ms. sosnoski has been doing lately. i think i fully understand what we r learning about.

  8. My goal for the third quarter was to be sick less and get better grades. I think I've KIND OF met my goal, but I still have a ways to go. I haven't been sick for a couple weeks, which is like a BIG accomplishment for me! I've been drinking Emergen-C nearly every day (thanks for the advice, Erin), and I've been getting more sleep, so I feel healthier, more alert, and energized! I still have to catch up on some labs from when I was sick, but I think that once I make them up, I'll be able to achieve my goal! I also got a pretty good grade on my Digestive Track quiz, so I'm happy about that! My classmates and Ms. Sosnoski can help me achieve my goal by lending me the notes from class, and if they're sick, to stay FAR away from me! :]

  9. My goal was to complete my homework very single homework assignment and not just to do it and get it over with but do it with a purpose and fully understand. I haven't been consistent with doing this but I feel I have done a better job of turning my homework in on time. I feel like if I reminders to maintain your goal then I will have that in my head at all times. Sometimes things come up and I totally forget to do homework or you just miss one now and then. I think of my friends or classmates reminded me that we have to get our lab done or we have homework.

Excellent--fully doing the homework with purpose is a great way to improve your understanding. I hope these blog posts remind you of your goal so you can keep it in mind. It's OK to miss a homework once in awhile--we're all human. As long as you do MOST of them, your grade won't be affected too much.

  10. My goal was to get better test grades
-My grades have been better, but still not as good as id like them to be
-I could study more to help me meet my goal better
-Whats making me successful is more studying but I could study more
-I guess if I could would like to get my overall grade up too, but that will probably happen if I get my test grades up

  11. My goal was to start getting higher tests grades. Since I decided to start following this goal, my tests grades have improved a lot! I haven't gotten below any 80 on any test since then, which was a major improvement from my test grades before. I have been studying harder and also studying smarter. I am taking my time during homework assignments so I can fully understand what I am learning. I would like to continue receiving higher tests grades so I can continue to maintain a high average. 15. My goal was to do better on my labs. My lab grades have improved significantly. Reason being I have been taking my time and making sure my answers make sense. I have noticed that I'm not doing as well on my test, and seeing as that's a big part of my grade i would like to improve this. So far, based on your 5 week grades and your graded papers, how do you think you are doing with your goal? I think that I need a bit more of a push, and try and make all the review sessions.
If you are not meeting your goal, why do you think that is? I think that it's because I'm a procrastinator and not a very good studier.
If you are not meeting your goal, what steps are you going to take in order to reach your goal by the end of 3rd quarter? I am going to monitor myself and ask my parents to help me study, while also going to the review sessions regularly.
How can your classmates and Ms. Sosnoski help you to achieve your goal? I think that this is more of something that not a lot of people can help with other than remind me to go to review sessions and study.

  18. ^I messed up on my comment, oops:)

I haven't reached my goal just yet. I have accomplished parts of it, such as bringing up test grades, but I still don't have the grade I want. It has been a hard 5 weeks and since I do my homework in the order of my day, by the time I get to Science homework, I am very tired and unmotivated. However, if I mix it up and give myself breaks, I will help myself finish all my Biology homework, as well as homework in other subjects. I think it actually helps a lot to study with a student, which I do with Amber often over FaceTime and the phone. The problem with this is when I get grounded, I can't call her, so I need to find other ways to effectively study besides studying for a very long time, which can be very tiresome and difficult.

So far i think i have done ok with my goal, some of my quizzes have been good but there is still room for improvement. I think that some of my quizzes are doing better because i am taking better notes. Although i have somewhat met my goal i think i can still do a lot better so i am going to continue working on the goal to improve my quiz grades. I think so far I have done okay but only raised my homework and lab grades when it was mainly my quiz and test grades. I am not sure but I think it is because I still haven't done a all out study sesh before a test which is really what I need I think because it is the small things I get wrong. It is bringing my grade up. I would like to bring up my test grades more, my classmates and Ms. Sosnoski can just check in occasionally and make sure I am up to date.. although that is mainly my responsibility it would be nice.

Studying harder is not always best--you can study SMARTER by reading over your notes every night after class and then coming to the review sessions and completing the review packets. I'm trying to give grade reports more often--I hope that will help you see if you're up to date!

  29. My goal was to keep my grade a ninety or above and to improve my test grades to always 80 and above and I haven't done a very good at accomplishing them. I think it's because they are very hard goals and also very specific. I also always say I'm going to do something, but never get to it. So for the end of the 3rd quarter I want to put forth my best effort and actually do what I wanted to do before. I think in order to achieve this goal I will need to work my butt off and when I do the homework not just get it done, but be sure I understand it. A new goal for me would be to work harder at the old goal and also to stay more focused in class, maybe ask a few questions if I'm confused.

  31. My goal for the third quarter is to really work on understanding the material instead of memorizing or rushing through the hard parts. I think that I am for sure meeting my goal. My grade in bio went up from an 89 to a 93. This is a big accomplishment for me. Reading through the textbook chapters has made a huge impact on my test scores. The one test that I read through the text book for I got a 100 and the one I didn't I got a 75. I would like to try and take better notes and pay attention more inclass which could help me not have to spend so much time understanding the material outside of class.

  32. My goal was to improve my grade overall, and especially my homework grade. I think I have done a reasonable job achieving my goal. One of the obstacles I thought of was not focusing on the homework, but since then I have been able to remind myself to concentrate on the task at hand. My problem with homework isn't that I don't understand it thoroughly enough, but that I end up thinking about other things. While I am doing better at this, I think I can still try harder and will do that as the quarter progresses. I really am happy with this goal right now, so I can keep it until the end of the year.

  34. My goal for the third quarter was to do ninety-five percent of my homework. I don't think that I am doing to well on my goal. I think if I did as much homework as I said I would in my goal, I would have a higher grade. I think that I am not meeting my goal because I get bored with my biology homework since I usually save it for last because I have biology eight period, or I just don't have time to do it. I usually start with my homework that has the greatest consequence for not doing it or the homework that if I don't do, I won't understand what we're learning. I think that maybe if I start off with my biology homework, or at least don't save it for last, I can be hand in more of my homework than I do now. Maybe if some of my friends text me reminding to do it or do it with me in the morning, after school, or over the phone, I will get more of my homework done.

Also, I now try to approach Ms. Sosnoski respectfully or wait with my hand raised instead of just shouting out her name. I think having supporting friends and one's to compete with on grades has helped me stay motivated. Ms. Sosnoski's role model of being respectful and always telling us to be as well has probably helped me somewhat reach my goal. I think there is really no point where i can reach my goal, they just are there for the rest of the year because my grade can always improve and so can my respect for my teacher. I think i want to try and stay more organized in my binder though and the frequent binder checks every time we take a test has definitely helped with that. Also, I want to try to not just shout out during class. I think having friends that a role models and don't shout out in class will help me.

I've been doing pretty well with my goals, but I am going to start and work on them harder. Those goals are things that I usually struggle with, so it's difficult to start a new habit. I'm going to make these goals a priority though, especially the goal about doing a thorough job when I study for tests and quizzes. I might end up adding another part to my goal, because there are things that can always be improved on. Meeting my goals is something that I have to do lots of work on by myself, but other people can help. I think ive been reaching my goal because i have been doing the little things that will help over time. Im doing all of my homework for example, and I did some extra credit just in case. 42. I think for the first couple of weeks after I set my goal, I was doing really well, but I have started to slip over these past two weeks. Even though I have been a lot better about making sure I do ALL of the homework and turn labs in on time, procrastination definitely gets in my way. It takes me longer to do homework and I end up not doing some assignments that need to be done. The main factor that will help me not procrastinate is that sports are going to get pretty intense in a couple of weeks and that will force me to get everything done so I get enough sleep. My goal for these next five weeks is to try to really reach my goal I had at the beginning of the quarter, which is to always complete the homework and have at least an A.

    1. Yes, sports teach us very important time management skills. It's great that you recognize you need to alter your goal to meet your current progress. Thanks Katie!

  43. My goal for 3rd quarter is to work harder in class, including making more of an effort to study. So far I think I am succeeding in this goal, as my grade shows improvement. I think what is making me successful is that it is a relatively simple, easy goal to remember and accmplish. I dont think there's another goal id like to accomplish at this time, maybe later I will find one. And Ms.S can help by continuing to teach the way she is :)

  44. My goal was to pay attention and do all my homework and get a 90 or above in this class. I still haven't gotten my five-week reports but based on the grade handouts Ms. Sosnoski handed out in class I think I'm doing pretty good, but I need to do better. My life has been extremely busy in the past month so I think that has contributed to my grade, but I'm going to make sure I give myself enough time to do my homework every day from now on. I will also study harder for tests and do all the powerboosts. I think Ms. Sosnoski can help me achieve my goal by coming in early to help me study before tests, although she often does, I just forget to come in, too. :)

  45. My goal for the quarter was to get all of my homework done. I am doing fairly well, I just wish for a little bit higher of a grade. I think I am being better about writing my asssignments down, and that's why I have been getting my homework done. I just want a couple more points on my grade and I think I will be satisfied with it; the students in my class can help by keeping me on task because I usually space out and blabber a lot.

  46. My goal for this quarter was to hand in my labs more often. My grade has gone up a lot since then and I am very pleased with it. Now I just need to remember to do my homework always and I may be able to keep it that way. My classmates can help me with both of my goals by reminding me when labs are due and when we have homework.

  47. My goals were to do my homework more often and hand in my labs, My tests need to improve also. I have been doing a better job of that but there is still room for improvement. My classmates can help me by reminding me when I have hw and by reviewing with me.

  49. My goals were to organize my binder and my labs. I have improved this and my latest binder check was much better. My peers can support me by encouraging me to finish my work, and the teacher can help by asking what I need review on.

  50. My goal was to complete all of my homework assignments. I have definitely done better with my homework this quarter, but I didn't complete every assignment. Sometimes I have a ton of homework and have difficulty completing biology homework. To accomplish my goal for this quarter, I will do biology homework first so that I dont forget to do it later. My classmates can help by asking about the homework when they see me before sixth period.

  51. my goal i had for the 3rd marking period was to make sure all my labs were turned in and to get my grade higher than it was. my grade did go up(though not as highly as i would have liked) and i did end up turning in my labs. to make sure this continues i need to get my focus straight and become more organized.
my goal for this quarter is to become more organized all around. to do this I'm going to regularly go through my binders to make sure i have only the necessary paper and everything is where it should be. my classmates and friends can help me achieve this goal by pointing out to me when I'm seeming a little disorganized and to remind me if we had homework in case i forgot.
