  1. My favorite topic this year is the cancer unite. Even thought it is a really sad subject, I find it more interesting because I now know how cancer works instead of just knowing that it's a scary disease, and I know how it affects peoples' lives instead of knowing only about the cells.
My least favorite topic was cell anatomy because I had a hard time identifying the different parts and remembering the names of everything while also having to remember what everything looked like.
I'm looking forward to learning about things bigger than just cells because I think it gets kind of boring after a while of just learning about things that I can't even see.

  2. My favorite topic was cell resp/ photosynthesis/ ATP
because it was cool to know how i preform some of my most important life functions: breathing and obtaining energy, and how plant preform their most important life function. This unit just interests me the most.

My least favorite unit was the microscope unit because even though the technology was fantastic it was the least interesting unit out of all the units we have done so far.

I look forward to learning about the brain because i am very interested in sciences involving the brain.

  3. My favorite unit this year has been cancer and cell division. This was because knowing that cancer affects so many people each year, including some friends and family, that it was interesting to learn about what actually happens to the cells.
My least favorite unit we have had so far would be the photosynthesis and cell respiration (cell energy) unit. This is because there was just too much vocab and different equations to memorize.
I am looking forward to learning more about forensics and DNA because I find that stuff to be really interesting and cool.

  5. My favorite topic so far was cell energy and transport- even though there was a lot of memorization involved, I found it more engaging than the other units because I felt I could make more connections with my everyday life than the scientific method or biochem units, for example.
My least favorite unit was probably microscopes because when we did the labs, I sometimes had a hard time with the technology and I had trouble with all of the cell drawings because I really wanted them to be perfect.
I'm looking forward to the human body unit, because while cells are interesting, I think it's really fascinating how they work together to make us function and act and think the way we do.

  6. I agree with Laura about the cancer unit being my favorite. I know where she's coming from when she says that now she knows how cancer works, instead of imagining it being a scary disease.

Raffi how was the microscope unit boring?! I thought it was fun because we were doing more hands-on activities, and got to work with tools, instead of just taking notes.

  7. 1. My favorite unit was the photosynthesis and respiration. I like things that are straightforward and "systematic", so I can just memorize them.

    2. The microscope unit was the lesat interesting one. For me, it was difficult to focus on the specimen, and also to identify cell parts. I think it's because I am used to the textbook's way of showing organelles which look different under the microscope.

    3. Since I enjoyed the photosynthesis unit, I am excited to learn more about cells and how they work. When we get to human body unit, it'll be interesting to learn how lots of cells work together as a system.

  8. I'd say my favorite topic this year was cell respiration. Although there was a lot of stuff to memorize, I think that learning a lot about how the cells actually do stuff is really crazy. When we were young, i think that cells were sometimes described as a machine but we never knew how little things worked and how much their processes make sense.
I wasn't crazy about the microscope unit or the cell organelles unit, although I know both are really important to learn eventually as a foundation to biology, they were both sort of tedious and frustrating to memorize.
I am really excited for the human anatomy unit and learning more about the brain. I would love to have a career in medicine and learning about how the body does all of the crazy things in detail and how everything works together to make humans!

  9. I think my favorite unit was learning about the cell parts, the organelles and how they work. It was really cool seeing how all the different parts of the cell fit together, making the cell like a miniature country.
My least favorite unit was probably the microscopes unit. It didn't really teach me anything new, and it was so short it was almost like "why is this an entire unit?" Was okay using the microscopes, but beyond the fact that half of them didn't work properly i didn't think it necessitated all that time.
I'm really looking forward to learning about genetics. It's an area of science that's growing in the world, and i've always been somewhat confused by it, so I really want to know how all that works.

  10. My favorite unit this year was photosynthesis and cell respiration, even though it was dificult. I thought it was interesting to learn about how plants need the CO2 from cell respiration and animals need the O2 from photosynthesis.
My lease favorite unit this year was scientific method and tools of a biologist. I thought this unit was really boring and uneventful.
I am really looking forward to learning about evolution. I think it will be interesting to learn about how we think humans and animals have evolved into the complex species we are now.

    ReplyDelete
  11. My favorite unit this year has been. The microscopes because of the hands-on aspect to it. I liked it more than others because it seemed more hands-on.
My least favorite subject so far has been cellular respiration because there was so much to remember, especially the formulas.
I am most excited about evolution because it interests me the most.

  12. my favorite unit this year was the cancer unit. It was interesting because it was nice to know what cancer actually was. my least favorite unit was cellular respiration because there was a lot to learn and i was absent and missed some things. i am looking forward to evolution because it will be interesting to know how we evolved

    ReplyDelete
  13. raffi i think that the cellular respiration unit was hard, what was easy for you? Luna i agree with you the tools of a biologist was boring and non eventful

    ReplyDelete
  14. My favorite topic so far has been Cells: Unit of Life or Cell Division because I found them really interesting and fun. These units were better for me because they had a lot of hand on labs and projects. And I work well with those time of things. My least favorite subject was probably Cell Energy: Photosynthesis and Respiration because it was very hard to comprehend and understand fully. I feel like all the formulas and processes made it hard for me and that's why it was my least favorite unit so far. And I'm most excited for ecology because it seems like a fun unit and its about nature so that should be exciting give that we are only a few feet away from nature from our classroom.

    ReplyDelete
  15. i agree with April when she says that the cell energy unit was hard to understand fully, because there was a lot to memorize and remember, like the formulas.
I agree with Patrick also when he said that he's excited for genetics because there's so much interesting stuff about it that I always hear about in the news or something but I don't know very much about it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. My favorite topic of the year in Biology so far was probably the cell unit because it was the hardest challenge to memorize all the cell parts and their functions. I guess I enjoy being challenged, and that's why the cell unit was one right for me. My least favorite unit was the cell energy unit because it was the unit with the most processes and this was hard for me because I usually mess up the order of things such as the Krebs cycle and the ETC. I am looking forward to the DNA synthesis unit because its our next unit and you said it was your favorite unit.

  17. My favorite topic so far has been the Cancer unit. I thought that it was really interesting. I enjoyed learning about something that is so relevant outside of school. My least favorite topic was the Metric Unit. I didn't like it because it was annoying to move the decimal around and deal with all the zero's. I found it a little boring. I am also looking forward to genetics because i dont know very much about it but it seems fun and interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  18. My favorite topic was has been the unit of cells in general. It was fascinating to learn about the building blocks of all life on earth, and how these tiny, invisible cells are what I'm made of. It's mind boggling to think of all the activity being carried out constantly by all the little cells.this unit made more sense and was more engaging than he others. On the contrary, the scientific method was quite unpleasant. The whole scientific process thing was overly structured and it was a bland subject for me. But you have to learn to bake the cake before you bite it. I am looking forward to learning about wildlife diversity because it will give me an opportunity to channel my passion for animals into learning in depth about the lives of many fascinating wild beasts. A deeper knowledge of biological processes in each of these animals would be nice. Also, ecology will be good because its a more useful subject in terms of our everyday lives. I hope some of my burning questions about biology will be answered this year. I'm looking forward to it. - Nico Cancalosi Dean

  19. So far this year my favorite thing we did was the ATP just beacuse it had an awsome theam song... gotta get that ATP. It was just so funny i loved it. my least favorite is harder, i think it would be photosynthesis and cell respiration, beacuse i wasnt there for half of it. So i got confused. i dont know what we are doing later in the year so, if anyone can tell me that would help. What i am realy looking forward to is the disections. Yay! Cutting things open. FUN!!!

  20. My favorite unit this year was the microscopes because i got to see cells and organelles which I've never seen before except or pictures. I thought the labs in that unit were also fun. My least favorite unit was the cell energy because there was so much memorizing and writing to do. Also, it was kind of confusing at first. I'm looking forward to the genetics unit specifically the genetic engineering because I think it's really cool how humans can manipulate DNA to change living cells!

    ReplyDelete
  21. My favorite unit so far was the cancer unit because we learned about something humans have to deal with constantly in real life.
My least favorite unit was learning about the cell organelle and parts of the cell because it didn't seem like we would use that information in other places.
I look forward to learning about DNA because we learned about chromosomes and chromatin but not really DNA.

    ReplyDelete
  22. My favorite unit would probably be either cancer or the cell parts and organelles. Learning about the organelles is helpful because lots of the organelles we learned about relate to other units and make the other units a bit easier to learn. Cancer was an interesting unit because we hear about it happening to people we know, which makes it more interesting.

Microscopes was my least favorite unit this year because it wasn't that fun. It was sometimes hard to understand what I was looking at. I also didn't like learning about different scientific tools.

I'm interested in learning about DNA and genetics, because I think that it's cool and I want to learn more about how people can change DNA.

    ReplyDelete
  23. My favorite unit so far this year was the cancer unit. I knew someone in my family that has had cancer and has passed away; so it was good to know why cancer happens and how. It made this unit better than others because it was the most interesting and so far, the most useful unit. I feel as if I'm going to encounter more about cancer in the future.

My least favorite topic this year is the microscope unit. It was hard to find anything in high power which made it harder to complete any labs. It also hurt my eyes to look into the microscope for a long time.

The topic that I'm most looking foward to in class in genetics. I want to know how genetics work and get passed on. It seems like an interesting topic.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Tigran i Agree with you i thought the cancer unit was very interesting because it was very applicable. Even though it was very sad it is important to know how it works.

Massi i thought it wasn't easy, but since i was so interested in the topic it came a little easier than the others

  26. My favorite unit this year was the cell respiration and photosynthesis unit. I like learning how our cells use energy because without this, we would not be living at all. I also understood this unit pretty well; I like concepts that I can grasp easily.

My least favorite unit was the metric, safety, and lab equipment unit. I know these are important things to know, but I had already learned most of this stuff. Relearning things I already thought were pretty boring was even more boring.

I'm interested in learning more about DNA and genetics, especially in humans. I want to learn about this because DNA is the reason people are different. Differences are what make people who they are. Also, I like learning about human interaction because of differences (not necessarily in biology, more in social studies and history) and these units will allow me to think about this more and learn why people are different and how.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Massi, I agree with you that it will be interesting to learn about how we evolved.

    ReplyDelete
  28. My favorite unit was microscopes. Things look really different under high magnification, and It's really cool to see all the patterns and shapes that make up common objects. My least favorite unit was microscopes. Remembering when to do this, where to put this, what do do when this happens, how to carry them, how to clean them, what the names of all the parts were (illuminator? It's a light). I am looking forward to learning about genetics. That seems really interesting, like the real world applications of everything we have been learning.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Laura, I also thought that the cancer topic helped me understand why cancer happens and that it's not just a scary disease. Learning about it made me more hopeful for the future. If people know why it happens, they can get closer to a cure or a prevention.

Ploy, I also think that it was really hard to see things under the microscopes and that it hurt my eyes. It took me forever to complete the labs too and I didn't have much time to go in and complete them.

    ReplyDelete
  30. My favorite unit was the cell unit. Respiration was kind of hard though, since there were so many steps, and you can't actually see what's happening. My least favorite was the microscope unit. I like microscopes, but not when it's impossible to focus.
I'm looking forward to learning about things bigger than cells because i am getting bored of cells.

    ReplyDelete
  31. My favorite topic this year was cancer. I liked that I could know what was actually happening in cancer, how it happens, and why. Learning about it makes me feel more connected to people who I know who have cancer.

My least favorite topic this year was the Chemistry of Life (atoms, macromolecules, enzymes, bonding, etc.) because I like learning about things that I can relate to and see. I also thought It was kind of confusing.

I am looking forward to learning about anatomy, because it's something we can see every day, and really relate to.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree with Vibhav about the microscope unit. It didnt find it very interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  33. My favorite unit this year was the cancer unit, because cancer is something that I've heard about a lot but never actually understood. Since cancer is so common, I found it easier to relate to this topic than some of the others.

My least favorite topic was the cell organelles unit, because there was so much to memorize and all the organelles looked the same. It was also difficult because of the differences between plant and animal cells, and how some organelles were only found in animal cells or only in plant cells.

This year I am looking forward to learning about genetics and DNA because so much information is stored in something so small. It also affects almost every aspect of who we are, so it would be interesting to know more about it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. My favorite unit so far was the cancer unit. Even though it was an emotional topic i felt that it was very interesting and good for me to learn about since I know so many people that have been effected by cancer.
My least favorite unit so far was the cell parts unit. I found it hard for me to memorize and remember all the parts in the cell, what they look like, and their functions.
I am looking forward to learning about DNA and genetics, because I don't know much about this topic but it seems like it will be interesting and easy to learn about.

    ReplyDelete
  35. My favorite was cell transportation because it was interesting how the concentration in and out of the cell is same all the time
What I didn't like was The basic unit of life because there was a bunch of new vocabs that I had to memorize
I would be interested about learning human bodies because it will me more visual than cells

    ReplyDelete
  36. My favorite topic so far is the cell unit because i never really understood the unit before but now that i've taken it again, it's easier to understand and is quite interesting to learn how the body functions. This unit was a little better than the other units we've gone over because this was the unit i've learned the most so far.
My least favorite topic to talk about was the cancer unit we recently went over because i know a lot of people that are affected by it and it is depressing to talk about.
Im looking foward to the rest of the year because this is the first year in a while that i've actually liked learning about science.

    ReplyDelete
  37. My favorite units would have to be cell transport and cancer. I thought it was cool learning about the semi permeable membrane and creating our own lab reports focused on diffusion. Even though I have no someone whose died of cancer, I never knew how it really worked. So that was interesting to me.

My least favorite unit was ATP, cell respiration and photosynthesis because it was difficult. The concept itself is interesting but I didn't like memorizing the equations.

I think I'm looking forward to animals the most because I like animals and it will overall be a more interesting topic for me. Also, it involves evolution which I find very interesting.

    Ignore my name... Haha

    ReplyDelete
  38. My favorite unit is cancer. After knowing nothing about it I really appreciate the opportunity to get to learn about it. I always thought of cancer as something completely different than what it actually is.

I didn't really like the metric system unit because I hate math enough already, and it was like having double math homework every night.

There is not one specific thing in Biology I'm looking forward to, I just want to try to enjoy everything and do my best.

    ReplyDelete
  39. my favorite unit was cell transport i thought it was cool because we compared a cell to a factory. it amazed me on how much is done in such a small organism. my least favorite was enzymes because it was hard to understand. I think I'm looking forward to animals because they are awesome and interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  40. i agree with Massi evolution is fascinating!

    ReplyDelete
  41. my favorite unit was the living traits unit because it was the easiest to understand. Also, the information was very easy to remember for the test. My least favorite unit was the microscope unit because i did know how to do the microscopes measurement problems and what the tools were used for.

Im looking forward learning about different animals this year.

    ReplyDelete
  42. my favorite subject is cancer because even though it can be a tough unit to go through its necessary to know about and it's interesting.

my least favorite subject would be the microscopes unit because it could be very difficult to actually focus under high power(but i didn't not like it)

I'm looking forwards to the genetic unit because my aunt has got me hooked on genealogy and i like to know how things work.

  43. Zsofi, I agree that the whole idea of genetic engineering is really interesting. How was microscopes your favorite unit though? It was so hard! And Patrick, I agree that the microscopes unit was fairly lengthy, but I think it was necessary to do- I had barely used a microscope before and we are using them now and probably will throughout the year. I just think it's a useful skill to have.

  44. My favorite unit so far was cancer. I think it was very interesting and included a lot of information that was easy to understand. I also thought that it was a very good unit for me to learn because It effects a lot of us and it effected quite a lot of people that I know.
I didn't like the ATP unit because I thought that it was very complicated and had too much information! It was quite interesting but too hard to understand and there was a lot of things that you had to learn and remember e.g. Formulas.
I'm looking forward to Body Systems unit. I think it should be quite interesting and useful because it applies to all of us.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I agree with Kalil, I really enjoyed the Microscope unit especially with all the cool labs we did with it. However, i did not enjoy the ATP unit because of all the little letters and words and formulas we had to memorize. I am looking forward to learning about evolution. I believe in god and how he created mankind but it will be nice to learn about the theory of evolution!

  48. 1) My favorite topic has been the Cancer unit because it relates the most to what I have back round information about and so I understood it the most and I found it the most interesting.
    2) I disliked the ATP unit because it was difficult the understand and it made the least sense to me.
    3) I am most excited to learn more about DNA because I find it interesting how it controls who we are.

  49. emily_ I also agree with Kalil and Aubree, the microscope unit was really fun. I realy enjoyed being able to look at different objects under a microscope. My least favorite topic was the ATP unit because it ws really hard and it also oom a while for all those formulas to stay in my head.... i didnt really enjoy it much. I am looking foward towards learning more about DNA and the Human body (if we will at all) :)

  53. Caoily, i agree with you, the metric, safety unit and such wasn't my favorite either. i didnt really like it because it was kind of boring compared to everything else.

Andriy i also agree with you about cancer being the best unit. It's nice to know what cancer actually is and how it happens.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Aliya, I agree with you about the ATP unit. It was a bit confusing, but I actually still enjoyed it.

Narissa, I agree with you about biochemistry. I think that learning about things as small as atoms is sometimes hard to understand.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Andriy, I agree with you about the ATP unit. It was confusing and hard to memorize all those different formulas.
Sarah, i agree with you about the microscope unit. I found it kinda boring and it was hard to get the microscopes to work sometimes which got really annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Kalil, I agree with you about the microscopes because using them was interesting, but the labs and rules were annoying.
I agree with Aliya about the ATP unit because it was hard to memorize the processes and I didnt understand it

  57. I agree with Leah that cancer is a very relatable topic for a lot of people, so it was pretty interesting to everyone. I also agree that the ATP lab was confusing!

Justin- I agree that genetics will be cool to learn about cause also want to understand how my genetics work and why i have whatever traits from my parents.

    ReplyDelete
  58. i agree with ambi bambi on pretty much everything she said. i found the cancer topic easy to understand and interesting to learn about, as i have known people who suffered from it, and people who still are. i also think genetics would be fun, they seem like a pretty fascinating topic. i did not much like the ATP unit, because ive never been very good at memorizing abbreviations (ADP, NADPH, etc) so i didnt really know what was cracking a lot of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  59. my favorite topic so far has been the cancer topic, because eve though it was was sad, it was interesting to learn what actually is happening with this very common disease. My least favorite topic was the microscope unite because it was annoying to memorize all the parts of the microscope. I am exited to learn about the human body because it will be interesting to relate all the small things we have been learning into a bigger picture.

  61. I agree with Mattie, i wasn't exactly crazy about the metric system. And also with Steele about evolution. I feel like it will be a fun topic.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I agree with Aliya about the ATP unit not making a lot of sense and I didn't really understand how it all happened.
I agree with Nick that some of the memorizing we did cell respiration unit was hard, but the unit got better after that.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I agree with Vibhav and Elise. That was the way I felt about the unit at first and i had to study a lot for the unit test. There were so many vocabulary terminology that you had to remember.

    ReplyDelete
  64. My favorite unit so far was the cell unit where we learned about all of the organelles and what their jobs were. I liked this unit because I personally found it interesting to learn about all of the parts to the cell and what they do. We learned about different cell parts everyday and i found that engaging. My least favorite unit this year was the metric system/traits of living things unit because i basically already knew a lot about the metric system and the traits of living things unit was just kind of boring to me and didn't go into depth. I know it's necessary to do that unit, i just didn't like it very much. I'm looking forward to learning more about the human body systems because I would really like to understand what all of our systems do in our body everyday

    ReplyDelete
  65. I agree with Caoily being that the cell respiration unit was fun because I really like learning about how plants actually change the sun's energy to oxygen. I also agree with Leslie that the cancer unit was good too because i knew that cancer had to do with cell division, but i didn't know the details of it's good to know how cancer affects so many people

  68. My favorite was the Cancer unit becuase I think it is good to know what happens in your body when you get cancer and why it is dangerous.

My least favorite was the metric unit because it was uninteresting and repetitive.

I am looking forward to genetics because I want to know why everyone else is excited about it.

  69. Esther-I agree with you about disection. I really don't want to do it and I don't like cutting things open!

Melody-I agree with you about microscopes. They were hard to focus sometimes, but I liked the unit.

  70. I would definitely get the testing for both Huntington's disease and cancer. I could prepare for cancer and increase my chances of survival. For Huntington's disease I could ask my family and friends after I'm 35 to look after me and to care for me as my mental skills deteriorate.
